Nothing from Kirby. Hopefully that means he's hunting hard.

Thanks poodle
I am going to hold off on entering the little scrub buck until late in the season. Ole Montgomery the Moose may fall in love and make a mistake. I am running out of tags too early in the season and the rut is not here yet. I love bowhunting :D

Guys I hunted Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning. All I had in shooting range was a doe and a spike, I did get a glimpse of what looked like a nice buck that came running and grunting behind me Saturday. I think he was running a doe but I did not see her. The rut is not far off. :D

Yeah I've got some new pics of a couple bigger bucks on my trail camera, but they are both 7 pointers. Which doesnt help us out even though they are much larger deer

I regreted not sitting yesterday evening, the last day of archery season, but I'm going out this evening bow in hand on the opening day or cross bow season. Hopefully I'll at least get some good footage of some deer movement.

I am heading back out Friday for another week of hunting. The bucks are starting to follow the does. I have a couple of big mature bucks located, hopefully one of them will show up during the daylight and give me a shot. :D

Hows it going guys?

Had an absolute monster on Saturday, 180+ class 4x4 mulie, great fronts, strong backs, heavy mass.

I know this because he was only 40 yards out, perfect broadside shot... why didn't I shoot? Cause my bow was 15 feet away sitting on my pack... yes I am an idiot, yes I learned a lesson.

From opening day of archery season until the closing day of general gun season in January, and I intend to do just that.

Hey Kirby, it's been a while. Thats a hard lesson to swallow right there, but it has happened to everyone. At least you saw him though. You could have never seen him at all.

Guys
I may be able to hunt nearly the whole month of November. All the rain has caused our mill to run out of logs again and we are not getting nearly enough in to run a full week at a time and most likely won't until it dries up some. Rumor has it that we may take 2 weeks down starting next week and I already have 2 weeks vacation scheduled in November. I could not be that lucky. :D

wow I thought I had it made with two weeks off, but I believe you have me beat. At least for the month of November. Thats great news for your hunting. I just hope it doesnt hurt you other ways. I think I'm going to try and see what's moving in the morning. It's is so hot here right now it aint funny. It was 92 with 90% humidity today. If the deer are gonna move in day light it'll have to be in the morning. 8)

It is official we are going to be down next week so I won't use my vacation to be off. :D The older I get the more I like to be off anyway, so I will be heading back to the woods tomorrow and I won't check back in until mid week next week. Going after ole mossy horns

I thought that was the darndest thing while I was up in Va. No hunting on Sunday, but I guess that's just how it is.

hey alpha! hope things are going well up your way. i had better luck seeing deer in the early season now that the rut is heating up they changed the patterns. noticed the lil ones are not with the herd now. they eat in my back yard. i have not seen momma in a week or so. i know she is still around bc i see her at night but she maybe shacking up with a buck.. who knows. i am tempted to start baiting them LOL.. my patience is running out. :D

It's legal to bait down here. I'm only feeding corn as of right now, but I have a whole management plan for next year. Protien feed, food plots, and clearing ground litter to let more natural plants to grow. I guess we'll see how it goes. I need to get through this season first.

Congradulations on your successful hunt. I havn't hunted much the last couple weeks, and this week there is no hunting. General gun starts Saturday, and I should be back in the woods next week. I'll still be carrying the Monster though.

I am heading out again next week looking for ole rocking chair rack, the only problem is now the woods are crawling with folks toting guns. The rut has started to kick in and next week is the prime time to see a big buck around these parts.

Well guys I passed on a really nice 6 point and a small 8 point last Sunday. I had them both at 5 yards following a hot doe. Old rocking chair rack did not show this week. The rut seems not to be very intense this year in my parts. The gun hunters have only been shooting average sized buck and not too many at that. I will try again in a couple of weeks when the gun hunters get out of the woods.

Yeah I havn't hunted much since the end of our archery only season. It's the second week of gun season and it's now antlerless deer week. I'm concentrating on trying to get my oldest nephews their first deer, but I do intend to get after a couple nice bucks I've been getting pictures of.

as for me, ill be able to hunt twice this week thanks to Thanksgiving :D . after that however i will not be able to hunt until mid december. i am getting married on the 5th of Dec. and going to jamaica for a week after that,

well guys I went out to put corn in my feeders this afternoon, and to my dismay. I found that bears, probably the same one, had tore two of them down and chewed them to pieces. I guess I shouldn't complain too much though. both feeders together cost me 70 bucks and half an hour to put together. They last 7 months, and done their job. I figured it was just a matter of time since forage is scarse for them right now. There wasn't even corn in the feeders though. I guess since they smelled of it is why they tore them up. My gal's opinion is there wasn't any corn in them for them to shake out. So they got mad, and tore them up. She recently had an encounter with a Sow and her three cubs. I think it was probably her that tore them both up. I'll be glad when they start having a lottery for bear down here or something.

Dang BB! When does bear season come in?

as for my hunting as of lately has been nill. i went on a few man drives but notta. i took the bow out twice and saw a couple deer but way out of range. not lookin good unless i bait them. since my cousins have trampled all over the woods once or twice a week doing drives the deer are skittish. ill give a few more times with the bow but this late in the season with them as skittish as they are makes it pretty durn tough.

I only saw 4 doe's at about 50 yards this weekend and they seemed awefully gun shy acting after 4 weeks of being run by dogs. That is the one thing I dislike about hunting Arkansas, the houndsmen dog the place to death and it takes a while for the few remaining decent bucks to settle down after the modern gun season closes. They will start moving again as the late rut starts to kick in in a couple of weeks. Late last year the bucks started making scrapes and following the yearling doe's that were coming in to estrus late. I saw one young doe that had three bucks following her in late Jan.

I wish we had a bear season. They are on the protected list down here. I also hunt next to a state forest where they release the nuisance bears they capture in populated areas. So needless to say, "I'm screwed!". I'ts all good. I'll putting food plots in this spring, and feeding soy out of my feeders next year. I'm excited to see how all the extra protien is going effect them.
I know what ya'll mean about all the rifles. I have found a couple new places I'm going to sit. They are out of the way places that no one wants to wade through the water to get to. I've seen a lot of good dear sign, and no human sign.

Seasons over. Its official for the first year is many many years I have failed to take the slack out of the freezer, excuses and mistakes are aplenty, but long and short I just never sealed the deal.

Guess I didn't add many points to the board for the team...

Good luck out there guys. I eagerly await your success stories.

me too kirby. its not a big deal really. all i got was a baby 6 pointer. no does at all even witha gun.. now thats sad there. my cousins put such a harsh pressure on the woods come gun season its hard to get one in a stand. you basically have to do man drives and get them up and running

solo are you done hunting for this year or is your season still going? I am going to try and put in a couple more hunts before I throw in the towel. I can't hang in there this weekend though, it is supposed to be 8 degrees at the lease Saturday morning, too cold for me

Well I just found out the mill is going to have to take another week down due to the lack of logs, soooo I will get to spend some time in the woods next week again. Are you going to go ahead and enter your buck solo?

I've got a couple more weeks left to try and improve on my 8 pointer. I've been under the weather here lately, and the bears are demolishing any and all corn I put out. I got three days off next week. Hopefully I'll spend some of it in a stand.

I'm hoping I can get in the woods tomorrow myself. I've found a couple heavily used trails I want to sit over before it's all said and done

Well guys I am still trying for a bigger buck. All the gun hunters are out of the woods and I have been seeing a few does and I have found where a couple of bigger bucks are living but so far they are not moving in the daylight. I am planning on putting in a couple more hunts this weekend and again next weekend. Are you still hunting BostwickBoy?

No I'm done. We finished up on the 24th. I guess I'll just have to settle with the 8 pt this year. It was my best season to date, and I'm looking forward to this years bow season. I got big plans for my lease, and a lot of work ahead of me.

I am done. It looks like we may have to settle for second place. It would take a 16 point buck to catch the leading team. I entered my buck. Waiting on you to enter your deer BostwickBoy. It has been fun and it was my best season ever also :D

yeah I just got a pm saying he can't see my photos so I may have to post again. Hopefully we get it all worked out, but either way it was a great year, and I'm going to check out a new lease for next year this coming up week. The manager is going to cut me a deal since I will only be here for the early archery season. I should be hunting Northern VA come January though. My season is getting cut in half because my unit is being mobilized.
